Arsenal's year?
The Gunners have not won the Premier League since the 2003/2004 season, when they clinched the title undefeated after racking up 26 wins and 12 draws.
Arsenal currently lead the Premier League, six points ahead of Manchester City, who were the favourites to win the title at the start of the season. After two consecutive runners-up finishes and steady improvement since Mikel Arteta took over as manager, the London club needs a major title such as the Premier League.
The last two seasons have been very good, but two seasons ago Guardiola's City, and last season Arne Slot's Liverpool, were superior. Above all, in the final stretch, where the Gunners were unable to keep up with their competitors. That is the unknown factor in this final stretch: whether the six-point lead over Manchester City and seven over Unai Emery's Aston Villa will be enough with 14 games left to play.
Premier League standings (matchday 24)
- Arsenal 53 points (+29)
- Manchester City 47 points (+26)
- Aston Villa 46 points (+9)
Manchester City, the big threat
The situation was similar two seasons ago, but by this stage Manchester City had already overtaken Arsenal in the standings. This year, the depth of the squad is proving key for Mikel Arteta's side. With the arrival of Martin Zubimendi, they have gained a lot of control over the game and are a team that can handle all situations.
In addition, they maintain the defensive solidity of recent years, and continuing in the same vein will be the key to reaching the final days of the season depending on themselves to become Premier League champions 22 years later. On 18 April, a key Manchester City - Arsenal match will be played at the Etihad Stadium, but what happens before that direct duel could be decisive.
In that sense, it remains to be seen whether Pep Guardiola's side will react. If they fail to do so and do not win the league title, it would be the first time since the Catalan coach's arrival in Manchester in 2016 that City have gone two years in a row without winning the Premier League. It would be a big surprise if Aston Villa were still in contention for the title in the final few games.
