Is Tottenham in danger in the Premier League?

The Spurs are struggling and are now just one point above the relegation zone to the Championship.

Tottenham's Premier League season is turning into a real nightmare. While they had a great group stage in the Champions League under Thomas Frank, qualifying directly for the round of 16, they have failed to perform at the same level in the domestic league. The Danish coach was unable to get the team to respond and was sacked on 11 February.

At that point, the Spurs were five points above the relegation zone, and they signed Igor Tudor with the aim of changing the dynamic to avoid relegation and compete for European places in the Premier League and to go as far as possible in the Champions League. But with the Croatian at the helm, the North London side has lost all three games, extending their Premier League losing streak to five consecutive defeats.

Tottenham's latest results in the Premier League

  • Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham

  • Tottenham 1-4 Arsenal
  • Fulham 2-1 Tottenham
  • Tottenham 1-3 Crystal Palace

On the brink

Three weeks after the change of manager, Tottenham are now just one point above the relegation zone. As a result, their Champions League last-16 tie against Atlético Madrid has become secondary. The club's message is clear: survival must be achieved at all costs, sacrificing any other objectives.

It would therefore be a surprise if the North London side were to knock Atlético out and sneak into the top eight teams in Europe while fighting for survival. Igor Tudor will be resting his best players in Europe's top competition so that they are fresh for the nine remaining Premier League games.

It remains to be seen how Tottenham will handle the pressure, but they are considered one of the most important teams in England, having last been relegated in 1977. They returned to the First Division a year later, in 1978, making this the Spurs' 48th season in the top flight of English football.
