Ter Stegen, loaned to Girona
In the shadow of Joan García and with no opportunities to play, the German goalkeeper is looking for minutes that will secure his place in next summer's World Cup.
Marc-André Ter Stegen, Barcelona's goalkeeper, will play on loan at Girona until the end of the current season. Under Michel, a strong supporter of his signing, the goalkeeper will try to get the minutes he needs to be able to compete in the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The goalkeeper has played 423 official matches with Barça, being the starting goalkeeper in the last Champions League won by the club in 2015. In addition, his extensive list of honours includes six EA Sports League titles, six Copa del Rey titles, five Spanish Super Cups, one European Super Cup and one Club World Cup.
Some leave and others arrive
The departure of the German goalkeeper has not been the only move made by Barcelona's sporting management. The other new addition to the Barça squad is the signing, also on loan until 30 June, of João Cancelo from Al-Hilal Saudi FC in Saudi Arabia.
This move allows Barcelona to cover for the injury to Andreas Christensen, who will miss the rest of the season. Cancelo returns to Barcelona after being on loan for the entire 2023/2024 season, when he was owned by Manchester City. This move allows Koundé to play as a centre-back when Hansi Flick deems it appropriate. Although no further moves are expected, anything can happen until the transfer window closes on 31 January.
