Following the conclusion of the group stage and on the eve of the AFCON round of 16, which kicks off this Saturday, tournament organisers have revealed their 'Team of the Tournament' so far. Host nation Morocco stands out, being the only country to have two of its representatives among the chosen elite.

Between the sticks, experienced Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy (Al Ahly) earns his place. He distinguished himself by making seven saves from eight shots on target conceded in just two matches.

At right-back, Manchester United's Noussair Mazraoui becomes the first Moroccan to feature in this dream XI. An undisputed starter, he proved a dominant force, leading in successful passes in the opposition box and ranking among the best crossers, showcasing remarkable depth in his play.

Conversely, on the left flank, Nice's Tunisian international, Ali Abdi, takes his spot. Beyond converting a crucial penalty, Abdi emerged as one of the tournament's most effective ball-winners, excelling in all statistics related to duels won.

The central defensive pairing is formed by DR Congo's Axel Tuanzebe (Burnley) and Burkina Faso's Edmond Tapsoba. Both displayed immense experience and composure. Furthermore, the Bayer Leverkusen defender stands out for the cleanliness of his build-up play from the back.

At the heart of midfield, Brighton's Carlos Baleba takes the sole organising role. The Cameroonian proved instrumental in his nation's qualification for the round of 16, particularly during the tense Group F decider.

Brahim Diaz, in the Copa Africa group stage 'Team of the Tournament'

Leading the line on the right wing is the scintillating Brahim Diaz, representing Morocco. Having netted three goals in as many matches against Comoros, Mali, and Zambia, Diaz is already staking a strong claim for both the Golden Boot and the tournament's best player accolade. Operating on the opposite flank is Ademola Lookman. Atalanta's versatile forward proved the most productive attacker, registering two goals and two assists despite missing one of Nigeria's fixtures.

Completing the attacking line-up is a trident with a distinct Premier League flavour, featuring Riyad Mahrez (Al-Ahli), Sadio Mane (Al-Nassr), and Amad Diallo (Manchester United). Mahrez ranks among the top three scorers with three goals, while Cristiano Ronaldo's 33-year-old teammate, Mane, impressed with his defensive and offensive contributions, complemented by an assist and a crucial goal. Finally, the young Ivorian, Diallo, who scored two goals that also opened the scoring, is recognised among the most decisive players in the penalty area.

Eric Chelle, the Nigerian national team coach, was also recognised as the tournament's best coach for this phase of the competition.
